Our New Kitchen
The time has come to completely rework our kitchen. This will involve in this order, but that could change.
- Rip up floor tiles.
- Repair/replace the hole in the ceiling where the sky light was.
- Remove the sliding door and frame.
- Remove all of the existing benches, sinks, cupboards, stove and cook top.
- Remove exhaust fan and replace that section of ceiling.
- Get contractor to put in new gas pipe for the new gas hob.
- Get contractor to put in new power point for the microwave.
- Repaint all walls and ceilings.
- Install new cupboards and benches.
- Buy new stove, range-hood, dishwasher, microwave.
- Get the custom bench top measured and fitted.
- Install electrical appliances.
- Rip up the tiles in the passage way, and pull up the carpets in the dining and family rooms.
- Lay new floor tiles in all of those rooms.
- Take care of anything else that pops up along the way.
Once that has been completed we will knock the bar down in the lounge room and convert the alcove behind the bar into a cupboard to store the DVD player and the DVD's we have.
Please check back every now and then to check our progress.

What is under that carpet?
Under the carpet in the family room Rhiannon thought she had found tiles. I took a look and yes it looked ike they had carpeted over the tiles. So it was time to pull up the carpet and take a look.
So I started to pull it up. The dog gets in everything.
After a night of panic at the thought of chipping up more tiles it turned out to be lino.
Silly dog.

Finishing off the doorway.
The form work is in place ready for me to start applying the cement
Rhiannon tries her hand at rendering the wall.
The cement is in place.
After the cement dried I cut and added a piece of gyprock to each side of the door way.
This is the hall way side of the doorway.
Once the gryprock was in I started to fill in the gaps around the doorway.

The bar
The modified doorway.
We decided to do away with the archway that lead into the kitchen and convert it into a standard door way. This meant cutting a groove into the brick work and inserting a steel lintel into the brick. This lintel is used to stop the roof from falling in.
Once the lintel was in place I then cut away the bricks to leave the new doorway. I have to render the wall again and re-plaster where I have made the cuts. Now here are a few photos of the work so far.
The marked out wall.
Rhiannon is about to start chipping away the plaster.
Some plaster removed.
All ready to start cutting the groove.
A closer view of the wall.
The lintel is in place and the two pieces of wood needed to bring the top of the door way down to the right height.

The tiles are all gone.
At last, the tiles are almost gone. I have only a few
more tiles near the toilet and bathroom and they are gone. Here are a few photos
of them and the bare floor.
The last photo is of a panorama reaching from the front
door to the toilet door. These photos can be clicked to see a larger image.

Removing the old unused skylight.
The skylight before removing the surround frame. |
Another view of the skylight. |
Cutting the gyprock to cover the hole. |
The replacement timbers are in place. |
The hole was not square and the edges not straight, so it took a while to get the sheet to fit. |
All screwed in place, now to fill the gap and sand smooth. |
The last of the kitchen tiles.
On the weekend I removed the last of the tiles that where under the fridge.
Now to start in the passage way.
